While Greek mythology is the most well-known mythological canon of belief, there is also Norse mythology, Mesoamerican mythology, and beyond. These old, sacred stories held up cultures around the world, explaining natural phenomena, philosophies, and life itself.
Though the stories could be brutal, wild, and bizarre, they could also, on occasion, be wildly romantic. And when the gods are involved, love has never had higher stakes.
From the underworld to the frontlines of legendary war, here are nine mythology romance books to give you something to believe in.

Of Prophecies & Pomegranates
In the first book of the Dark Fates series, Persephone, the Goddess of Spring doesn't know how to live up to the impossible expectations of her overbearing mother, Demeter. Feeling like she'll never be enough, the pressure makes her spiral.
However, when she meets Hades, the God of the Underworld, she is shocked to find out they have a lot in common. He speaks to a darkness that lives inside of her, yet he's more kind than anyone else she's ever met. A passion grows between them as they meet in secret.
When an arranged marriage threatens Persephone's freedom, she's forced to choose between obeying her mother or standing up for herself and embracing her dark power in his kingdom.

But Fate will test them in ways they could never imagine.

Medusa
After being the victim of abuse from unstoppable gods, Medusa has been exiled to a remote island. Only the snakes that serve as her hair keep her company here.

Hades has lived his life in the shadows, and he has no plans to move into the light now. But Persephone can give him a taste of the revenge he's been craving for years, so he's more than willing to help her out of her tough situation.
