Everyone's favorite litigator is back for the third time. The Hollywood Reporter writes that Reese Witherspoon will return to her iconic role as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde 3. The script will be co-written by The Mindy Show's Mindy Kaling and Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Dan Goor.

What, like it's hard?

Witherspoon had announced in 2018 that Legally Blonde 3 was in development, but this news marks the first time Kaling and Goor have been attached to the project. Kaling is known for shows like Netflix's Never Have I Ever, which simultaneously celebrate and subvert romantic comedy tropes. In his work on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Goor has shown a gift for showcasing the joyfulness of everyday humans. Together, they're the perfect team to write the latest chapter in Elle Woods' story.

Legally Blonde was released in 2001, and quickly became a commercial and critical success. The classic romantic comedy has been adapted in the Laurence Olivier Award-winning Legally Blonde: The Musical, and inspired Ariana Grande's 2018 music video for "Thank U, Next."

Witherspoon's iconic role as the beautiful and brilliant Elle Woods cemented her reputation as a rom-com star. In addition to Legally Blonde, she's starred in Home Again, How Do You Know, Sweet Home Alabama, This Means War, and Just Like Heaven

Witherspoon is also a producer with a focus on projects featuring complex female leads. Witherspoon's production company Hello Sunshine is developing Legally Blonde 3, and recently worked on the HBO series Big Little Lies and the Hulu series Little Fires Everywhere

Given the talent on board for Legally Blonde 3, we can't 'object' to this threequel.
