For a woman who never dreamed of being an author, Beverly Jenkins has had quite the career so far: USA Today bestselling author, NAACP Image Award Nominee, editor of her fourth grade class’ school newspaper—you get the point. She’s done it all. But she didn’t plan it to be that way—her author’s website states that “After [her first book] was published in the summer of 1994, Avon kept sending her contracts and she kept sending back books. Now, almost 30 years later, she’s still at it.”

Along with accolades for her historical and Western romances and her romance writing in general, Jenkins is known for writing inclusive romances that seamlessly include Black history since the dawn of her career. A versatile writer whose big career dream was to work in a library, we’re glad she chose to contribute literature to libraries instead of working in them—we would really be missing out on all this raw talent. Read on for a list of some of our favorite Beverly Jenkins books.

In Boston, revolution is as constant and unconscious as the breaths you take—even for Faith Kingston, whom no one would suspect is capable of treason. But committed to fighting British tyranny, she's the beautiful daughter of a tory tavern owner by day, and rebellious “Lady Midnight,” passing valuable secrets to the rebels, by night. And she won’t let anything get in her way; that is, until she meets Nicholas Grey.

Nicholas Grey has returned to Massachusetts in search of violent justice for the death of his rebel father—and he suspects that the local innkeeper is the one who killed him. But when he arrives to meet the man’s breath-taking, ebony-skinned daughter, he can’t help his attraction. And neither can Faith. But when fate unexpectedly brings the two together by uniting their causes, they’ll come to realize that even getting exactly what you want is a dangerous and rebellious act.

Always keeping on the right side of the tracks, Narice Jordan never had any reason not to obey the law. They think she has something to do with a missing North African diamond. But before they get the chance to interrogate her, she’s taken from them by gunpoint at the hands of a shadowy figure.

She’s unsure whether the dark, handsome stranger who took her is her captor or her saving grace, but she is sure about two things: sticking with Saint is the only way to identify her father’s murderers, and she’ll have to trust him if she wants to stay alive.
